Thanksgiving and my birthday have come and gone, and so has my son Brad who flew down to join us for a few days. He was there when we left the dock at Afton on September 15th and now he joined us 2300 miles later. Lisa participated in the traditional Thanksgiving back home, where everyone travels to Stevens Point, Wisconsin for an extended family celebration.
Enjoyed a fabulous Thanksgiving buffet at the Clearwater Yacht Club. Reciprocity has its benefits!Brad in his happy place on Clearwater Beach.Enjoyed a half day fishing excursion, red tide has impacted fishing here., but I can’t blame that for our small catch. Made more memories than fish for dinner!Cool vibe at Marina Cantina gourmet Mexican restaurant right in Clearwater Beach MarinaClearwater Aquarium, rescue and rehab center for dolphins, sea turtles, Otters, pelicans, also the set for the movie Dolphin Tales and Dolphin Tales II. Sadly the star of those Movies Winter the Dolphin just passed away.Amazing sea creatures at the Clearwater Aquarium. Travel Day to Madeira Bay Marina, 26 miles, a narrow fairway but well worth it . . .A welcomed surprise in Marina, a pool and hot tub just steps from the boat.Christmas decorations Mad Beach, somehow it’s just not beginning to look a lot like Christmas here, something is missing! Never tire of the beautiful FL sunsets, this one on Mad BeachSaying Good Bye to Brad in Mad Beach. So great to have him join us for this leg of our journey and for Thanksgiving and Ron’s Birthday.Last night in Mad Beach, we enjoy finding the nearest restaurant to our marina and dining there. Mad Beach Fish House was just steps away. and served up fresh fish and veggies just the way we like them. Always fun to try them local faire.Left Madeira for St Pete Beach. We found this Marina on Dockwa for only $70 a night. If ever there was a day I thought we might be needing Boat US this would have been the day. You can see the shallow spots clearly on this map. Actually we did call Boat US for advice on getting into this dock and they gave us great direction and you can see how we entered the bayou by hugging the right side. If I said it once I’ve said it before “the Loop is not for the faint-hearted”. This took a lot of guts for the Captain to even consider this port, we’ll keep you posted if it was worth it it not.
Captain Ron, Looks like you and Nancy are having a great time. Enjoy every posting regarding the trip. Stay safe and healthy! Gene Arnal
