A Chesapeake Classic

We traveled with two buddy boats to cross from Solomon’s across the Bay to St. Michaels. Winds out of the west with waves 1-2 ft, so beam seas creating a little rocking and rolling but sunny and beautiful weather for cruising. It was everything you’d imagine boating in the Chesapeake to be, deep blue water and a balmy 70 degrees.

St. Michaels is the epitome of everything you think of when you think of the Chesapeake, it’s a classic Chesapeake harbor. When you enter the harbor, boats, sailboats, and tall ships fill the marinas. Main Street is lined with historic buildings housing shops and restaurants. Best known for the Inn at Perry Cabin where the movie The Wedding Crashers was filmed, St. Michaels has so much to offer.

St Michaels Marina is close to town and boasts of many amenities, a Boat Spa (service that cleans your boat), a pool, Gem Car rentals, and of course the usual laundry, showers, WIFI. Their ships store is like none other we have seen, however, selling high-end apparel brands like Lulu Lemon, Peter Millar, Smathers/Branson as well as must-have boating items and a full selection of cigars.

We did yet another tour of a Maritime Museum, this makes our fourth, searched for artwork for the boat, while enjoying the town’s historic buildings. The town has so many great options for dining, we had a great crab cake sandwich for lunch that was exceptional, I am no connoisseur but I tasted a lot of crab on this trip and there is something different about Chesapeake crab, sweeter, more tender, different flavor–love it. We dined at Theo’s for a special dinner with Zaptel business associates Bruce and Penny. And of course, the usual docktales with the loopers on the dock at the marina, always fun to hear the boating stories and highlights of the Loop from other boaters.

Passed this beautiful Tall Ship on our way into St. Michaels
Pool at St. Michaels Marina, not Olympic size but long enough for Ron to do laps. All over St. Michaels you will see the Union Jack flag being flown along with the US Flag, it’s hung to show appreciation to the UK for their support of US during Iraqi conflict and more so because St. Michaels is known as the “Town that fooled the British” in the Battle of St. Michael during the war of 1812.
In all the years of Zaptel phone cards, we had never met Penny, we had a great time with these two, wish we would have met them sooner!
Docktales with LaVida, Grand Wazoo, and Mobile Home as our Hosts on the dock.
