Flying Colors does New York

We went on plane (fast) for the 106 mile trip from Atlantic City to NYC and our big entrance was marred by fog, but as we went under the bridge the fog started to lift, dramatically revealing the NYC skyline and the Statue of Liberty ahead of us.

I have to pinch myself to take in the fact that our boat from Catfish sandbar on the St. Croix River in Minnesota is the one we managed to somehow drive by the Statue of Liberty on the Hudson River.

We had a few days to take in the sights from across the harbor from Manhattan at Liberty Landing Marina, and to see local friends and also to spend an afternoon in Manhattan.

The fog lifted as we approached the harbor.

We befriended Susan and David of looper boat Last Flight Out on our trip to New York, and we were able to capture some pictures of each other as we were approaching the Statue of Liberty.

Hey, what are these two doing out in the Atlantic Ocean? This was on our way from Atlantic City to NYC.
One of those iconic moments on The Great Loop.
A fellow looper captured this moment, they didn’t know us but they thought it might be a nice shot, so they looked up the boat name and found us on Nebo and sent it to us. Thanks to Chance and Jeanine of boat Dolce Vita.

Another amazing connection, Nancy hadn’t seen her Maid of Honor from our wedding in over 10 years, and they live in Connecticut so Patti and Kurt traveled down to join us for the afternoon at Liberty Landing Marina. Lots of happy faces.
The St. Croix Yacht Club was well represented on Times Square with our caps as we explored.
The Lacroix’s and Reimann’s spent a day in Manhattan, a highlight was lunch at the famed Carmines
We got tickets to the September 11 Memorial Museum and spent a couple of hours there. Every detail of that day is recorded in words and artifacts and images and video and you can relive it in as much detail as you care to. It will help those that didn’t live through it get a glimpse of the horror of that day and how we recovered from it.

Turned out to be another keepsake photo taken by Jeff LaCroix at the Liberty House restaurant near the marina.

  1. Beautiful pictures in NYC. So cool to meet up with maid of honor and her husband from your wedding. The 9-11 memorial is so well done and moving, I’m glad you remembered that painful day in your trip to NYC, so close to the anniversary too. God Bless America – keep on cruising Ron & Nancy.
